Salemtowne believes that residents can enhance and maintain their quality of life by participating in fitness programs. "A routine of regular physical activity can help to maintain or partly restore strength, balance, flexibility and endurance - four areas that are important for staying healthy and independent. Increasing strength and endurance make it easier to climb stairs and carry groceries. Improving balance helps to prevent falls. Being more flexible may speed recovery from injuries". (excerpt from Fearless Aging, Salemtowne Publication 2004). Residents at all stages of life participate in a range of health promotion activities. The wellness staff coordinates programs focusing on fitness, prevention, and nutrition.

Our comprehensive fitness center offers:

  • Indoor heated pool (50' x 24') plus locker rooms
  • Whirlpool
  • Rooms for strength training, cardio exercises and functional fitness classes
  • Keiser weights
  • Nintendo Wii gaming system

Salemtowne also maintains a relationship with the Wake Forest University Department of Health and Exercise Science for fitness studies and testing.
